Program for Rational and Efficient Use of Energy in Public Buildings
This program was established under the National Program for Rational and Efficient Use of Energy. The aim is to implement energy efficiency measures in national public buildings, to address lack of knowledge on the energy usage of these buildings, to control and reduce the consumption of electricity and natural gas, to build capacity of national public administration staff, to standardise the management system, to establish recommendations and implement energy efficiency measures. The Secretaria de Energia (Ministry of Energy) provides technical support and has developed a document with energy efficiency recommendations for public sector buildings.

Act no. 309/2009 Coll. on the promotion of renewable energy sources and high efficiency cogeneration (2026 amendment)
The act aims at setting the legal framework and regulations to support the development of renewable energy sources in Slovakia. It was last amended to reach 10,2 % in 2027, 11,5 % in 2028, 16,0 % in 2029, and 27 % in 2030.

Directive 2023/1791 on energy efficiency
Directive (EU) 2023/1791 establishes a common framework to promote energy efficiency within the Union. It sets binding EU targets to reduce energy consumption by 2030. Member States must achieve cumulative final energy savings with increasing annual rates and apply the “energy efficiency first” principle. The directive prioritizes households affected by energy poverty, the public sector, industry, and data centers.

Building renovation - Non-commercial buildings frequently visited by public - ECB (S007)
Mandatory energy certification under Act No. 555/2005 for non-commercial public buildings frequently visited by the public. Energy savings calculated as the difference between the average energy demand for the original condition (upper limit of energy class D per Decree No. 364/2012) and the energy performance certificate value. Managed by the Ministry of Transport of the Slovak Republic.

National Energy Strategy 2002
One of the aims of the National Energy Strategy 2002 is to increase utilization of indigenous energy resources and the use renewable energy sources by following EU guidelines to reduce the volume of fuel import as well as to create new jobs and to improve environmental standards. Specific measures to achieve this goal include:
- drawing up and updating programmes for the consumption of indigenous energy resources;
- encouragement of the extensive use of indigenous energy sources by organisational, economic and financial measures, support to enterprises and increased production and installation of equipment intended for the processing and use of the above… -

Greenabler project- Investment in electricity network
Bulgaria’s Electricity System Operator (ESO) has secured a €65 million grant from the Ministry of Energy for the first phase of the Greenabler project, which aims to upgrade the national transmission network to fully accommodate renewable energy. Additionally, the Ministry awarded €101 million in grants to three power distribution companies for network modernization.
