Air quality and climate policy integration in India
Frameworks to deliver co-benefits Air pollution has emerged as one of India’s gravest social and environmental problems in recent years. At the same time, the country is experiencing signs of a warming climate with potentially devastating effects in the long term. Energy-related fuel combustion is at the heart of both crises. It is a main source of three major air pollutants, NOX, SO2 and PM2.5, and the largest contributor to India’s CO2 emissions. In many locations, concentrations of particulate matter persistently exceed recommended national and international standards with severe implications for public health.

Unlocking the Economic Potential of Rooftop Solar PV in India
…PV (RTS) is 40 GW and the installed capacity as of 31 December 2020 was around 6 GW.
Following the workshop “Unlocking the economic potential of rooftop solar energy in India” organised on 12 October 2020 by the IEA, in collaboration with the Council of Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) of India, the IEA and CEEW jointly drafted a report based on insights from the participants of the workshop and the outcome of additional analysis.

Renewables Integration in India

The share of solar and wind in India’s ten renewables-rich states (Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Punjab and Kerala) is significantly higher than the national average of 8.2%. The main contributor being the Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT) scheme, the key policy driving efficiency gains in the industrial sector. The adoption of appliance standards and building codes in some states, coupled with growing energy access and new construction, resulted in policy coverage in the buildings sector of 13% in 2018. Fuel economy in India
Market profile and analysis of fuel consumption trends Light-duty vehicle (LDV) sales have contracted in India since 2017, with 3.2 million sold in 2019. Nevertheless, India remains the fifth-largest LDV market. Average fuel consumption of new LDVs dropped from 6.9 litres of gasoline equivalent per 100 kilometres (Lge/100 km) in 2005 to 5.7 Lge/100 km in 2019, which is 20% below the global average.
