…development project, GridEd, that now includes hydrogen to the technical programme that covers power systems, distributed resources and digital systems. The programme will address hydrogen workforce development skills in four technical areas: production, delivery, storage and use. DOE’s HFTO in June 2020 also announced USD 20 million in funding to the University of Tennessee to support workforce development in new energy technology areas (including hydrogen and fuel cells), in partnership with Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Oak Ridge Institute. The five-year, interdisciplinary programme will focus on research and development in emerging technical fields, such as energy system resilience.

Recovery and resilience plan / Green mobility and infrastructure/ Resilience in Electricity Grids and Energy Transition in Rural Areas
As part of the French resilience and recovery plan, the French government allocated specific measures in order to foster green mobility and strengthen the resilience of the energy system. Among these measures, investments in electric grids in rural areas will increase in order to enhance resilience towards extreme climate events (heatwaves, storms, floods) and towards energy transition (renewable electricity and storage technologies). Overall, EUR 50 million will be allocated to this goal from 2021 to 2026.

DOE Distributed Energy Systems Program
In September 2023, the Office of Clean Energy Demonstration (OCED) announced up to $50 million in funding for projects that can demonstrate that aggregated and coordinated Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) can provide reliable, predictable grid services for a wide range of system configurations. DERs have the potential to reduce peak demand, increase reliability and resilience, reduce strain on the transmission and distribution systems, and provide enhanced value and/or reduced costs to the grid operators and energy consumers if operated in a coordinated, flexible manner.
