Heat pumps are a cornerstone technology for achieving secure, affordable and sustainable heating. Already among the world’s most common heating technologies, they are expected to play an increasingly important role in shaping future energy demand in buildings and beyond.

As their strategic importance has grown, so too has the need for more comprehensive, granular, consistent and regularly updated market monitoring. The IEA’s Heat Pump Monitor responds to this need by providing a data-driven assessment of global and regional heat pump markets, the conditions that enable their deployment and their future prospects. It centralises IEA analysis and consolidates national and international data within a consistent analytical framework to support governments, researchers, and industry stakeholders in identifying priority actions to accelerate deployment, strengthen domestic manufacturing and maximise socio-economic benefits in line with broader objectives.

The Monitor also features a dedicated online tool combining expert analysis with interactive data visualisation. Its core outputs include an analytical summary highlighting key findings and quantitative insights, alongside a suite of 20 interactive dashboards that allow users to explore trends across a wide range of indicators and compare performance across countries.

The dashboards are organised around four main pillars: a) global deployment trends by sector of application; b) in-depth analysis of heat pumps in buildings, including aspects related to affordability, energy security, industrial competitiveness, innovation and technology; c) regional perspectives; and d) policies.

While providing a global overview, the Monitor places particular emphasis on major heat pump markets that illustrate different development pathways and policy approaches.
