In recognition of the fundamental importance of understanding energy related environmental issues, the IEA Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Energy dataset provides a full analysis of emissions stemming from energy use, and has become an essential tool for analysts and policy makers. The publication is designed to assist in understanding the contributions of specific fuels and sectors to GHG emissions associated with combustion of fuels from 1971 to 2019 for over 203 countries and 42 regions. Provisional emissions data from 2020 are included for OECD countries plus emerging economies. Emissions were calculated using IEA energy balances and the default methods and emission factors given in the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for national greenhouse gas inventories.
The Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Energy database (formerly CO2 Emissions from Fuel Combustion) contains global annual GHG emissions from energy and related indicators.
