Table: Overview of existing and planned certification systems and regulatory frameworks
Typical system boundaries used by fuel life-cycle analysis methodologies

Notes: In the case of hydrogen carriers, transport & distribution includes also conversion and reconversion of hydrogen.
Overview of existing and planned certification systems and regulatory frameworks defining thresholds of GHG emissions for hydrogen and its derivatives
Only standards, certification schemes or regulations that include an explicit GHG threshold are listed. Guarantees of origin schemes are excluded since they do not include GHG thresholds. CCUS = carbon capture, utilisation and storage; SMR = steam methane reforming; H2 = hydrogen; NH3 = ammonia. The “Demand sector” column indicates whether the certification system or regulation is limited to using the hydrogen in a specific sector.
* These are fuel emission standards based on a credit system that have a GHG reduction target for the overall fuel supply to the transport sector rather than the individual fuels or production pathways.
