New podcast episode looks at the latest situation in the Strait of Hormuz and across the Middle East

The IEA today released a new episode of its Everything Energy podcast that examines recent energy-related developments in the Middle East and the implications for international markets and for economies across the region.

Since the start of the Iran war in February, energy exports from Middle East countries through the Strait of Hormuz and via other routes have become the focus of intense global attention, with significant implications for the world economy and especially for Middle East countries themselves.

In the new episode – available now on Apple Podcasts and Spotify – IEA Senior Oil Analyst Rebecca Schulz discusses how escalating attacks on ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz and on energy infrastructure across the Middle East are threatening to derail a recovery in the region’s oil exports.

Then, Middle East North Africa Programme Manager Nadim Abillama speaks about what the overlapping conflicts in the Middle East have meant for energy systems and economies around the region, including for producers’ export revenues and for energy security and affordability in different countries.

The IEA’s Everything Energy podcast offers insights and perspectives on leading global energy issues. In other recent episodes, IEA experts have unpacked a number of topics linked to the energy crisis stemming from the war in the Middle East – including the impact on diesel prices and access to cooking fuel, how the crisis is reshaping energy investment trends, and what the energy world looked like on the eve of the Strait of Hormuz shock.
