New podcast episode examines why diesel prices are surging and what it means
News
The IEA today released a new Everything Energy podcast episode that looks at the growing squeeze in diesel markets, which is pushing prices to record highs in key consuming regions and could have significant implications for the global economy.
Available now on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, the episode features a conversation with IEA Senior Oil Market Analyst David Martin and Russia, Caspian and Black Sea Programme Manager Talya Vatman. They explain why diesel prices have risen more sharply than those of gasoline or crude oil – taking stock of the impacts from the war in the Middle East, Ukraine’s attacks on Russian refineries, and limited capacity across the refining sector globally. They also discuss how the situation could evolve in the months ahead.
The IEA’s Everything Energy podcast offers insights and perspectives on leading global energy issues. In other recent episodes, IEA experts have unpacked a number of topics linked to the energy crisis stemming from the war in the Middle East – including an underused resource for lowering energy costs, how the crisis is reshaping energy investment trends, the impact of cooking fuel shortages, and what the energy world looked like on the eve of the crisis.
A new Everything Energy miniseries also explores energy innovations that have shaped history. The first episode looked at the silicon solar cell and how its development has underpinned today’s solar power boom. The second explored advances in drilling and their energy sector impacts, and the third examined the invention of the air conditioner – and ongoing efforts to improve it.
