The Brazilian Centre for Management and Strategic Studies (CGEE), the Brazilian Energy Research Company (EPE) and the Energy Programme for Brazil (BEP) of the UK Prosperity Fund will hold a workshop on energy innovation indicators on 22 and 24 March 2021, from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM (Brasilia time). The IEA, which supports Brazil-led work on energy innovation under its Clean Energy Transitions Programme, will be taking part in the discussions.
The workshop is being organised under Brazil’s Energy Innovation Platform (EIP) project, designed to develop processes and tools providing evidence about gaps and opportunities in innovation for a sustainable energy transition in Brazil. The EIP project builds on activities started under the Energy Big Push (EBP) initiative, in which the IEA was a key partner as well.
Starting in 2019, the EBP project was a collaborative initiative providing a unique environment to share experiences and knowledge, collect and process data on investments in research, development and demonstration (RD&D) in energy and on understanding the dynamics of innovation in sustainable energy solutions in Brazil. EIP aims to complement EBP by developing a data visualization platform for RD&D investments in energy, and by defining a set of indicators to track innovation efforts in the Brazilian energy sector.
The workshop will gather Brazilian energy innovation officials and institutions, as well as thematic experts, to discuss the use of metrics to track clean energy innovation progress, data and information requirements, and methodologies for collecting and processing data to feed the energy innovation platform. The discussions will take place online with simultaneous translation in Portuguese and English.
IEA contributions to this event were made possible through the Clean Energy Transitions in Emerging Economies programme, which received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 952363
