Exploring the Social Impacts of Clean Transport Policies

Paris Time
Webinar — France

As the world moves towards achieving its energy transition goals, clean transport policies have impacts that extend far beyond improved mobility and reduced emissions. Clean energy transport programmes can also influence economic accessibility, social behaviour and cohesion, gender equity, health and overall quality of life. Additionally, the shift to electric mobility also has important labour implications for regions specialised in auto manufacturing.

This webinar, organised as part of the IEA’s people-centred clean energy transitions work programme, will explore the social impacts of clean transport policies. Drawing on examples and research from around the world, it will address the following questions:

  • What lessons can be derived from cities that have successfully implemented clean transport policies with positive social outcomes?
  • How can policymakers design socially progressive clean transport policies?
  • How has clean energy in transportation been empowering for women, especially in the context of the Global South?
  • How does the shift towards clean and sustainable transport affect job opportunities and the local economy?
  • How could clean transport policies impact the affordability and accessibility of mobility for marginalised communities?
