ASEAN Energy Security Review

Report launch

Background information

Energy security has long been a priority for countries across Southeast Asia. As economic growth, industrial development and rising living standards drive up energy demand, securing affordable and reliable supplies is becoming increasingly important for the region.

The ASEAN Energy Security Review examines the energy security challenges facing member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). It looks at growing reliance on imported oil and liquefied natural gas, exposure to disruptions along key maritime routes, electricity system reliability and emerging risks in clean energy supply chains and critical minerals.

The report assesses policy options to strengthen resilience including diversifying supplies, improving emergency preparedness as well as investing in infrastructure, energy efficiency and deepening regional co-operation.
