CPS = Current Policies Scenario; STEPS = Stated Policies Scenario; NZE = Net Zero Emissions by 2050 Scenario. Net GHG emissions are calculated as the total emissions from electricity generation, transmission and distribution (“additional electricity emissions”) and the negative emissions that the equivalent internal combustion engine vehicle and hybrid electric vehicle fleet would have emitted from both upstream supply and at the tailpipe (“avoided fossil fuel emissions”). Biogenic CO2 emissions are not included. Projections include fuel economy improvements of conventional and electric vehicles as well as the growing share of renewable electricity generation, as described in the World Energy Outlook 2025.
