What is the aim of the project?
The iAST project aims to develop and demonstrate an energy thermal storage technology in a new way – with what we call a dual media technology.
How could this technology be explained to a high school student?
As an alternative to most storage concepts, this technology consists of using a solid material, such as rocks, to increase storage capacity. Material costs will come down while storage capacity will go up. This will help improve heavy industry’s capacity to use waste heat from production.

At what stage of development is this project?
The project is currently being implemented and is expected to end in November 2020. The storage concept has been successfully developed and tested. A demonstrator was constructed and implementation is planned. Further demonstration possibilities are sought.
