Act on CO2 advice line
The Act on CO2 advice line, run by the Energy Saving Trust, provided access to a one-stop shop service to help consumers make their homes greener. It provided a single point people could contact for a home energy audit, together with advice on how to save water, reduce waste, green travel, and connect to grants and offers from energy companies. The service has been superseded by advice available under the Green Deal.

Action Concerning Government Buildings
The French government is planning to introduce high standards of energy efficiency in its government buildings. The aim is to reduce emissions and to demonstrate the feasibility and benefits from such actions. A government Action Plan is expected in 2002. This follows earlier measures. For example, the Prime Ministers request in 1991 that each Ministry implement an energy-saving programme in buildings under its authority. These actions are co-ordinated at the national level by a group of senior civil servants responsible for energy within each Ministry. The priority, as of 1995, has been for investments for which the payback…

Financial measures for houses (subsidy, tax, preferential loan)
…be provided for energy efficient houses. The GHLC provided an extra loan for houses meeting energy saving performance, earthquake resistance performance or elderly and handicapped performance technical standards set by the GHLC.For energy performance, all the houses for which the loan was requested had to meet at least the 1980 thermal insulation standard. On top of that, an extra loan was provided for those meeting the 1992 or 1999 standards. In 2003 direct loans were no longer provided, and the JHF began underwriting a long-term and fixed interest rate loan called "Flat 35", with energy conservation performance one…

National Top-Runner-Initiative
The National Top Runner Initiative (NTRI) of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) wants to support the market penetration of energy-efficient, high-quality appliances and motivate consumers to switch to particularly economical appliances. Energy efficiency should thus become the top criterion for purchasing decisions. In addition, NTRI, as an initiative of the BMWi, wants to raise awareness of the energy-saving use of household appliances and consumer electronics in everyday life. This reduces energy consumption and contributes to the energy transition.

Electricity Billing
…and informative electricity bill for household consumers. The goal was to give customers a better understanding of both energy efficiency and a liberalised electricity market. Customers participating in the pilot project receive frequent electricity bills based on actual electricity consumption. The bills included a graphical, temperature related figure which enabled the customers to compare their use of energy over time. Information regarding energy efficiency measures, the possibility of changing suppliers and information on tariffs was included in the bill. A similar project carried out by the Nordic Council showed an energy saving potential of 5-10%. From 1 June 1999…

The initiator of the campaign is the German Energy Agency with the support of the BMU and partners from industry. The aim is to make information on energy- and cost-saving products and behaviour available on a nationwide basis in order to make a contribution to increasing energy efficiency and to reducing CO2 emissions. In a corresponding survey the majority of drivers said they had changed their driving and usage behaviour. Demand for energy-saving low-resistance tyres and oils was also…
