The project Operation of Building Infrastructure Systems of Energy 2000 promotes the practical optimisation of the operation of heating systems by encouraging all involved parties, from manufacturers to service engineers and on to janitors, to use the existing energy saving potential of 10 to 15% through correct operation and maintenance. More than 2 500 janitors have received instructions. Energy 2000 check-ups for heating systems are available for private house owners.

The new KfW Renewable Energies Programme consists of two parts - "standard" and "premium". The "standard" programme part comprises loans for: - Electricity from solar energy (photovoltaics), biomass, biogas, wind energy, hydropower, geothermal energy; - Electricity and heat from renewable energies, generated in combined heat and power (CHP) stations. The "premium" programme part offers loans and repayment bonuses for heat from renewable energies generated in large plants. In addition, there is a programme part "Deep Geothermal Energy…

                Residential deployment subsidy program

In an effort to improve the energy supply & demand condition and to promote the development of regional economies by supplying region-specific New Renewable Energies (NRE), the government has been promoting regional deployment subsidy programme designed to support various projects carried out by local governments. This programme, initiated in 1996, supported both NRE and energy-saving areas until 2005. However, the two areas have been divided in 2005 in accordance with the promotion Act for NRE development, Utilization and Deployment. Depending on the support ratio of the government subsidy and the nature of project, subsidies can be classified into…

                Algeria

Algeria is a large oil and gas producer and exporter. In 2015, the country updated its Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Development Plan to 2030, and put greater focus on the deployment of large-scale renewables, including solar PV and onshore wind installations, through various incentive measures.

Government spending for apartment buildings retrofits

The Estonian Ministry of Economy launched a new round of energy efficiency subsidies for apartment buildings retrofits with EUR 80 million budget. Depending on the building size and location, the subsidies can cover 30% to 50% of costs of complete retrofits of apartment buildings with energy efficiency class C or lower, or to cover the replacement of furnaces, gas or electrical heating by renewable energy heating systems or district heating. Additionally, other energy saving and renewable energy building technologies will be eligible for funding, such as solar panels or electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Apartment associations with at least 80% of…

Quebec Cap & Trade System for Greenhouse Gas Emissions Allowances

In 2009 Quebec established Cap and Trade System for Greenhouse Gas Emissions Allowances system in order to limit the emissions and encourage energy saving and growing shares of renewables in the consumption in the highest emitting sectors (i.e. transportation, industry and building). In December 2012 the system was updated with new rules entering into force in January 2013.The businesses that emit 25,000 metric tons or more of CO2 equivalent a year are subject to the cap-and-trade system. The first compliance period covered 2013 and 2014 and applied only to industrial and electricity sector. The second…

Lower Value Added Tax on isolation

This measure started in 2009 and involves a reduced VAT rate on labour for work performed on housing for the purpose of energy saving. The reduced VAT rate is applicable to the labour component in the process of installing insulation material and (insulating) windows. The VAT rate is reduced from 21% to 6%. Until 1 January 2014 the reduced rate for insulation activities also applied to the materials and to all other maintenance and renovation work, but as of 1 January 2014 the reduced rate only applies to the labour involved in installing insulation material. However, there was also an…
