Bonus-Malus: vehicle CO2 bonus and penalty system
…purchase vehicles that emit the least CO2. On purchase, a bonus is paid to people acquiring vehicles that emit less than 105g CO2/km (threshold valid on 1st January 2013). Conversely, a purchase tax ("malus") applies to cars that emit over 135g CO2/km (idem). Basic customs duty exemption for lithium-ion cell manufacturing material imports
The Indian Ministry of Finance provided basic customs duty (BCD) exemptions on the import of capital goods and machinery for the manufacturing of lithium-ion cells, to be used for electric vehicles. Duties for lithium ion cells previously ranged between 5% to 20%. This measure was announced in the 2023-24 Annual Budget and remains in effect until at least March 31, 2024.

As part of an updated action plan to support changes in the automobile sector announced in May 2020, France launched a EUR 50 million fund in April 2021 to retrain foundry factory workers as it shifts its internal combustion-based automotive industry toward the production of electric vehicles.
