The Petroleum Law sets the rights and incentives for oil exploration and exploitation in Viet Nam. The duration of a Petroleum Contract shall not exceed 25 years during which the exploration period shall not exceed 5 years.

Decision 51/2011/QD-TTg stipulating the list of vehicles and equipment subject to energy labeling, application of minimum energy efficiency levels and implementation roadmap
Following the Minimum Energy Performance Standards and Labelling ( No. 51/2011/QD-TTg) Viet Nam set the minimum energy efficiency level to be adopted from January 1, 2015 for industrial equipments including electric motors.

The law was first introduced in 1993 and mainly amended in 2022 to open Viet Nam’s petroleum sector to greater investment and development as the country moves to shore up its energy security.

ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership (AJCEP)
The ASEAN Member States and Japan signed the ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership (AJCEP) on 14 April 2008. The Agreement entered into force on 1 December 2008 among Japan, Singapore, Laos, Viet Nam and Myanmar. Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC)
Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) is an initiative proposed by Japan in 2022 and launched by 11 countries (Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam) in 2023 to promote decarbonization in Asia. It provides a platform to support climate policy development, foster public-private partnerships, strengthen technological cooperation, and establish green industrial supply chains. Over 150 MOUs have been signed under the auspices of AZEC, including in relation to reduction of methane emissions from natural gas.

Law on Geology and Mineral Resources
