Air quality improvement programme Part 2) KAWKA - Low emission elimination to support energy efficiency and development of distributed renewable energy sources.
The programme (KAWKA) was intended to reduce the exposure of the population to the effects of air pollutants in zones where pollution limits have been exceeded.
KAWKA supported the implementation of the EU Directive 2008/50/WE of 21 May 2008 on ambient air quality and cleaner air for Europe. It ran from 28th February 2013 till 31st December 2018.
Beneficiaries received a financial incentive of up to 45% of the total investment in the form of a grant. -

Regulations on Energy Labelling and Minimum Energy Performance Requirements for Air Conditioners
This regulation specifies the energy labelling requirements and the Minimum Energy Performance Standard (MEPS) requirements for single-package (such as window type) and split-system non-ducted air conditioners using air- and water-cooled condensers and heat pumps employing air-cooled condensers and ducted air-conditioners using air-to-air heat pumps for residential, commercial and industrial sector as applicable in accordance with Bahrain standards.
The MEPS are set as follows:
Starting from July 2016
Window type AC:
18000 > CC:
EER at T1: 8.5
EER at T3: 6.12
18000 = CC < 24000
