EU-UK Rules of Origin for EV batteries

The Rules of Origin for electric vehicle (EV) batteries are critical in determining the eligibility of EVs and their batteries for preferential tariff treatment under various trade agreements. These rules are designed to encourage investment in domestic battery manufacturing and ensure that a significant portion of the value of EVs and their batteries comes from within the trading regions.Under the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement, transitional rules of origin have been established for EVs and their batteries. To qualify for zero tariffs, a specific percentage of the value of EV battery packs or cells must originate in either…

Insurance Tax , Pre-Tax reduction, Car registration Tax (NoVA), Income Tax - ZEVs

Tax incentives and regulatory adjustments to promote hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, including eligibility for special license plates and tax exemptions similar to electric vehicles. The goals are to reduce environmental impact and dependence on fossil fuels by increasing the adoption of alternative fuel vehicles and provide specific benefits such as reduced parking fees and extended delivery zones, pre-tax reduction, and no car registration tax for ZEVs commercial vehicles. Additionally, the benefits include no income tax for ZEVs car when privately owened.

                Green vehicle plates

To increase public awareness of cleaner transport and electric vehicle, the UK Government rolled out green number car plates as of autumn 2020.

Drivers will be encouraged to switch to electric vehicles through the introduction of green number plates, which will make the identification of zero emission vehicles easier, helping local authorities design and put in place new policies to incentivize people to purchase them (i.e. cheaper parking and cost-free entry into zero-emissions zone for vehicles with a green number plate).

                The Low-Emission Transport Fund

The task of the Low-Emission Transport Fund is to finance projects to develop electromobilty (electric vehicles, charging infrastructure) and transport based on alternative fuels (CNG, LNG, biofuels and other renewable fuels). The revenues of the Fund will consist of a target grant from the state budget in an amount of up 1.5% of the revenues planned in the previous budget year from the excise duty on motor fuels and the resources provided by the electricity transmission system operator in an amount of 0.1% of the justified return of capital employed in the economic activity carried out in…

                Income tax law

Income tax law additionally promotes electric mobility. The benefit in kind in form
of gratuitous charging at work, granted to employees by their employer, is
exempted from income tax. Exemption is valid both for purely and hybrid electric
vehicles. Charging infrastructure given to the employee for free may be taxed with
a flat-rate tax of 25 %. The same tax rate may be applied for subsidies for charging
                infrastructure granted by employers.

                Lower vehicle taxes - NSW

In 2010 changes to vehicle tax were introduced for vehicles that have a lower impact on the environment.

                These ‘lower taxed vehicles’ include:

                manufacturer designated petrol-electric hybrids
                diesel-electric hybrids
                plug-in hybrids
electric vehicles with CO2 emissions no higher than 150 grams/kilometre (g/km) in the 'combined' driving cycle
previously eligible lower taxed vehicles with a rating of 4½ or 5 stars.
Private vehicles that have been modified for wheelchair transport are also eligible for the reduced vehicle tax rate.

The reduced rate is applied when the vehicle is registered.

                Hydrogen in Mobility

The Klimaatnota 2023 outlines the goals and quantitative targets for hydrogen refueling stations and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) in the mobility sector. The plan aims to establish 200 hydrogen refueling stations by 2030, supported by a €100 million budget to stimulate investments in hydrogen infrastructure. These measures are part of a broader effort to transition to a hydrogen-based mobility system, contributing to overall climate goals.
