Founding decree of the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources (CRES)
…article 25 of Law 1514/1985 on the Promotion of scientific and technological research. It was established by presidential decree in 1987, as a legal entity whose primary aim is to promote renewable applications (solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, biomass) and energy efficiency. Since 1999, CRES operates as the national coordinating centre for these activies. CRES has laboratories for certification of RES technologies, carries out studies for the determination of the physical as well as technical and economical potential of RES and participates effectively in the evaluation and monitoring of the investments implemented in the sector, including the energy savings field.

The 2009 Finance Law contains various provisions to increase support of renewable energy. Some of the primary measures are described below. Support for renovation of public buildings applying the energy efficiency first principle, with the aim of reducing final energy consumption. Where relevant and feasible, renovation includes installation of renewable energy sources and application of green infrastructure elements (green roofs, green walls, rainwater harvesting). Eligible expenditures include preparatory investment works including energy audits and certificates, studies and project documentation.
