Industrial Energy Efficiency Programme
The IEE Project contributes to the sustainable transformation of energy usage practices in South African industry and aims to enhance national energy security, promote job creation and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. It facilitates the implementation of the new South African Energy Management Standard under the framework of the recently released international energy management standard ISO50001, as well as builds the capacity to introduce a systems optimization approach in industry in South Africa.As of 2016 the results were 2140 GWh and R 1.76 billion saved and 2 million tonnes of CO2 avoided.

As per the 2022-2023 state budget bill, a maximum of 60 thousand billion riyal is allocated to renewable energy, energy efficiency, and maintenance programs. Of those funds, 20% are allocated for Tawanir company for the development of rural electricity networks, and 80% go for the Renewable Energy and Electricity Organization (SABTA) to be aligned with the county's plan for electricity production, renewable energy, and renewable energy technologies development. Special priority is given to the low income households for those programs.

In this plan, the government considers possible scenarios for the country's energy generation matrix. Based on natural resource endowment, project registration and connection requests.
The plan contemplates a reference scenario building up on the previous Generation and Transmission Expansion Plan (2015-2029). This scenario estimates 1427 MW hydroelectric generation (including 1200 MW from Ituango project), approximately 1456 MW from wind energy projects and 569.2 MW for geothermal, biomass and distributed solar PV generation projects. -
