Regulation for the Marketing of Liquid Fuels and Other Products Derived from Hydrocarbons
This regulations sets the global framework over marketing activities of liquid fuels and derived products. It notably includes an obligation to maintain minimum stocks for all liquid fuels for producers and wholesale distributors based on their average daily sales volume in the last six months.

Biodiesel blending requirement
In February 2009, Decree Law 49/2009 instituted mandatory quotas for use of biofuel in diesel blends, requiring that these contain at least 6% biodiesel (B-6). The quota is to rise to 10% in 2010. The law establishes the use of Biofuel Certificates (CdB) for compliance purposes. The General Directorate of Energy and Geology (DGEG) will issue one CdB to producers for every 1000 litres of biofuel destined to substitute for fossil fuels in the transportation sector. Electricity market liberalisation
On 18 June 2008 the European Parliament voted on provisions unbundling the European internal energy market. The Parliament also authorised national authorities to require system operators to give priority to generating installations using renewable energy sources or waste or producing combined heat and power-- except when the safety and reliability of the grid is compromised. Member States may also require that electricity revenues from domestic consumers be spent to fund energy efficiency. Decree 39/00 - Oil Activities Environmental Protection Regulation
This regulation establishes the environmental protection regime pertaining to oil and gas developments. It requires new projects or those subject to substantial modification to undergo an environmental impact assessment process linked to environmental permitting. Environmental impact studies shall be submitted to the Petroleum Ministry, which shall request a report from the Ministry of Environment and Fisheries before deciding on the outcome of the evaluation. Fuel Industry Act
The law regulates the fuel industry and establishes clear rules governing interactions and competition among its participants. The 2023 amendment established a minimum fuel stockholding obligation under Part 4. This sets out the minimum amount of stock fuel importers must hold within New Zealand’s Exclusive Economic Zone. The obligation applies to petrol, diesel and jet fuel.

Voluntary agreement of the German automotive industry
In addition to the self-imposed commitment of the automotive industry for estimation of energy savings, in future the effect of Regulation (EC) no. 443/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 April 2009 setting emissions standards for new passenger vehicles in the framework of the overall concept of the Community for the reduction of CO2 emissions of passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles will be included in this area (cf. EU Regulation on the CO2 emissions of new cars).
