                Temporary levy on energy companies

In order to finance consumer support measures enacted in response to the energy price crisis, the French government implemented from 2023 a temporary levy on energy companies. As authorized by EU rules, the levy will apply to oil refinery benefits ( subject to a with a 33% taxation rate ), and is expected to generate revenues close to EUR 200 million.  Benefits made by power producers beyond certain threshold, defined by energy source, will also be taxed, with expected revenues amounting to EUR 11 billion in 2023.

10 ways to ease oil price pressures on consumers

Oil prices have surged amid the war in the Middle East, putting pressures on consumers around the world. To help address the supply disruptions, the IEA is coordinating the largest ever release of oil from countries’ emergency reserves. But actions on the demand side can also play a key role. In this episode, Stéphanie Bouckaert, Head of the IEA’s Demand Sectors Unit, and Lucas Boehlé, an analyst specialising in energy efficiency, explain 10 practical options for governments, businesses and households that could help shelter consumers from oil price pressures during this unfolding crisis.

GIS: Extended use of renewable energy sources for the generation of energy and reconstruction of district heating networks I, II

The goal of this measure, financed from the CO2 quota sales, is to rise the percentage of renewable energy in the overall energy production and to lower the level of pollution coming from the production of energy.
Three activities are supported: construction of combined generation plants that are based on renewable energy, reconstruction of boiler houses, reconstuction of district heating networks to lower the amount of energy lost through it.
Currently around 60 projects have been financed through this scheme. The scheme is focused on investments as only 3,95% of the funds are to be used for "soft" activities…
