2025 Sustainable Energy Production and Climate Transition Incentive Scheme (SDE++)

The government is expanding support for sustainable energy production through a new round of the Sustainable Energy Production and Climate Transition Incentive Scheme (SDE++), launching on 7 October 2025 with a budget of EUR 8 billion. The scheme aims to reduce reliance on fossil fuels by encouraging investments in solar energy, biogas, geothermal energy, and industrial heat pumps, among other technologies. It functions as a market-based subsidy, compensating only for the unprofitable portion of projects. Additional incentives will be provided in 2025 for projects that ease pressure on the electricity grid, such as electric boilers operating off-peak hours…

Statement by IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol on his participation in a meeting of G7 Finance Ministers

…the challenges of transit through the Strait of Hormuz, a substantial amount of oil production has been curtailed. This is creating significant and growing risks for the market. We discussed all the available options, including making IEA emergency oil stocks available to the market. IEA Member countries currently hold over 1.2 billion barrels of public emergency oil stocks, with a further 600 million barrels of industry stocks held under government obligation.I am also in close contact about the situation with energy ministers from countries around the world, including recent calls with Saudi Arabia, Brazil, India, Azerbaijan and Singapore.
