Second Emissions Reduction Plan
New Zealand’s second emissions reduction plan (ERP2) emphasizes hydrogen as a key component in achieving its climate goals. The plan aims to support private investment in hydrogen by creating an enabling regulatory environment, reducing consenting barriers, and promoting a cost-effective, market-led transition to a low-emissions economy. Specific goals include facilitating the development of hydrogen infrastructure, supporting the production of green hydrogen, and exploring its use in heavy industry, transport, and power generation. The overall objective is to leverage hydrogen to significantly reduce emissions and enhance energy security by 2030.

Hydrogen in Mobility
The Klimaatnota 2023 outlines the goals and quantitative targets for hydrogen refueling stations and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) in the mobility sector. The plan aims to establish 200 hydrogen refueling stations by 2030, supported by a €100 million budget to stimulate investments in hydrogen infrastructure. These measures are part of a broader effort to transition to a hydrogen-based mobility system, contributing to overall climate goals.
