Energy rating labels on space heating appliances
As part of the Climate Solutions Package, the Australian Government will invest $6.5 million to commence the process to introduce an energy rating label to space heating appliances. This measure will deliver up to 15 million tonnes in emissions reductions to 2030. Space heating makes up 26 per cent of Australian residential energy use. Consumers can save significant energy and money by purchasing a more efficient heater. An energy rating label will allow consumers to compare different heating technologies and make a more informed decision which best fits their heating needs. The General Building Regulations sets the energy performance regulations for buildings as approved by Decree No. 2-13-874 to improve the thermal insulation of buildings to reduce energy consumption.The decree includes the following approaches: A performance-based approach: Specifications are expressed in terms of minimum requirements for annual specific heating and cooling requirements, relative to reference indoor temperatures.A prescriptive approach: the technical specifications are expressed, for each type of building and in each climatic zone, in the form of maximum thermal transmittance coefficients.
