"You Collect, We Buy" Scheme
In a statement made at COP28 in Dubai, the President of the European Commission announced the development of a roadmap for the global rollout of the "You Collect, We Buy" scheme in advance of COP29. This initiative, which is currently being piloted bilaterally with Algeria, incentivises companies outside of the EU to capture and commercialise methane that would otherwise be emitted into the atmosphere through venting or flaring. Under the scheme, the EU offers political and financial support, along with technical assistance for companies to undertake the technology upgrades needed for methane capture and utilisation.

Clean Sky Joint Technology Initiative
In February 2008 the European Commission officially launched the Clean Sky Joint Technology Initiative (JTI) to stimulate research, development and deployment of technology to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from aviation. The European Commission is contributing approximately half of the funding for the project, which involves major industry partners such as EADS, SAFRAN, and SAAB AB. Objectives include developing technologies that will allow reductions in aviation CO2 emissions by 50% through fuel efficiencies, reductions in nitrous oxide (NOx) emissions by 80%, and reductions in noise by 50%, all by 2020. The roadmap outlines strategic steps for hydrogen development over the 2021–2024 period. Regulations to Act relating to petroleum activities
The regulations provide rules to capture, transport and storage of CO2 in the petroleum activities that are initiated according to plan for development and operation approved pursuant to the Petroleum Activities Act Section 4-2 (If a licensee decides to develop a petroleum deposit, the licensee shall submit to the Ministry for approval a plan for development and operation of the petroleum deposit).
