2022 - 2033 National Transport Plan - Urban growth agreement
In line with its target to halve the emissions from the transport sector by 2030, compared to 2005 levels, the Norwegian government announced a National Transport Plan for 2022-2033. Within this Plan, five new urban growth agreements will be set up in order to reduce GHG emissions, congestion, air pollution and noise in urban areas (the Kristiansand region, Buskerudbyen, Grenland, Nedre Glomma and Tromsø), as a follow-up to existing ones (Fornebubanen in Oslo and Viken, Bybanen in Bergen, Metrobussen in Trondheim and Bussveien in Nord-Jæren). Revised national budget 2021-2022: Energy investments
Allocations from Ministry of Petroleum and Energy regarding energy investments in the revised state budget 2022. These include an increase to the allocation for CO2 management by NOK 390 million, to NOK 3,840 million in 2022. Furthermore, the government proposes NOK 65 million for studies and ground investigations of the seabed on the Southern North Sea II and Utsira North. An additional grant of NOK 10 million is also proposed to map how existing and new industries affect other sectors and ecosystems.

The regulations provide rules for surveying and exploration for subsea reservoirs for storage of CO2, as well as exploitation, transportation and storage of CO2 in such reservoirs in areas subject to Norwegian jurisdiction.

Norwegian control mechanism to improve security of electricity supply
The Norwegian Government is introducing a control mechanism including statutory responsibilities for hydropower producers to ensure the security of electricity supply. The mechanism will be finalised before the 2023/2024 winter season. Denmark’s oil and gas exploration ban
In December 2020 the Danish government reached an agreement with a broad majority in the Danish Parliament to phase out fossil fuel extraction in the country by 2050, starting with the cancelation of its 8th licensing round as well as all future bid rounds. North Sea production has historically been an important economic driver for Denmark, contributing around EUR 0.8 billion in revenues in 2019. Global Energy Review: CO2 Emissions in 2021
Global emissions rebound sharply to highest ever level The global CO2 emissions and energy demand numbers are based on the IEA’s detailed region-by-region and fuel-by-fuel analysis, drawing on the latest official national data and publicly available energy, economic and weather data. Combined with the methane emissions estimates published by the IEA and estimates of nitrous oxide and flaring related CO2 emissions, this new analysis shows that overall greenhouse gas emissions from energy rose to their highest ever level in 2021.
