Global Hydrogen Review 2026
…and hydrogen derivatives such as fertilisers. Given these circumstances, low-emissions hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels – which can be produced domestically and help diversify energy supply – are gaining more attention. The sixth edition of the Global Hydrogen Review takes stock of the sector, with a focus on progress to date in adopting low-emissions hydrogen and its derivatives. It also explores the challenges ahead at a moment of growing energy sector uncertainty. This year’s report includes new analysis on the cost that users of low-emissions hydrogen and hydrogen-based products will accept in different applications, as well as a special…

Global Methane Tracker 2026
Background information Around the world, many countries have made reductions in methane emissions a policy priority as part of their efforts to limit near-term global warming and improve air quality. The energy sector – including oil, natural gas, coal and bioenergy – accounts for more than one-third of methane emissions from human activity and has some of the best opportunities to cut these emissions. The annually updated Global Methane Tracker provides essential data on methane emissions across the energy sector and the opportunities to bring them down. The Tracker presents the IEA's latest sector-wide emissions estimates – based on…

Thematic session: Flexible grids for electrification
…data centres and cooling needs, while growing shares of variable renewable energy increase system complexity. These trends are placing increasing pressure on grids and require new approaches to ensure reliability and resilience.Demand-side flexibility and digitalisation are emerging as key solutions to address these challenges. By enabling consumers to adjust their electricity use in response to system conditions, flexibility can reduce peak demand, integrate renewables and defer costly infrastructure investments. Digital technologies play a critical role in enabling this transformation by allowing real-time monitoring, aggregation and control of distributed energy resources. While progress is underway, deployment remains uneven…

…sectors. Such policies remain the foundation of effective building strategies and will continue to play a critical role in avoiding long-term lock-in of inefficient and inflexible buildings.Through smart and connected technologies, interactive buildings have strong potential to provide demand flexibility while maintaining comfort, supporting energy security, reducing peak demand and avoiding costly grid investments. This session will explore how countries can future-proof policies to unlock the potential of interactive buildings for affordability, resilience and competitiveness. Participants will learn from international experience, explore emerging approaches, and identify solutions to reduce energy demand and strengthen system resilience. Downloads
