                March 2022 household electricity and heating subsidy upgrade

                In the framework of its March 2022 National Response Plan to the economic and social consequences of the war in Ukraine, the Spanish government lowered eligibility criteria to the household electricity and subsidy schemes, and extended it until end June 2022. Around 1.9 million households may benefit from both subsidies. The electricity support scheme-related measure was later extended to end 2022.

                Solid biofuels consumption estimation model

                The African continent accounts for about 50% of the solid biofuels consumed worldwide, with 82% of its inhabitants – or around 900 million people -- relying on it for heating and cooking. In sub-Saharan Africa alone, roughly 95% of the population depends on biomass in the form of fuelwood, charcoal and residues. Accurate data to measure solid biofuel’s share of the energy mix is key to developing policies and assessing sustainability goals.                 Law on security of critical information infrastructure

                The law applies to Russian legal persons and individual entrepreneurs owning or operating information systems, networks, or automated control systems in the field of power and the fuel and energy complex. They must categorize their information systems, implement security measures as mandated by the authorized federal body for significant objects, participate in the state system for detecting and responding to cyber incidents, and potentially install and utilize specific security tools.

                Back in 2015, Russia lowered the import duty on EVs from 17% to 0% for light passenger vehicles and from 15% to 5% for trucks. These lower import duties were cancelled in September 2017 and the government has no plans to reduce them again, Russia’s Trade and Industry Ministry has confirmed, given the government’s policy to encourage localised production of such vehicles instead.
