Irish Energy Efficiency Obligation
In 2012, the Irish government introduced energy efficiency obligations which have an energy savings target per year between 2014-2020 of 550 GWh of primary energy per year. These obligations cover all sectors and fuels, energy suppliers that sell more than 600 GWh per year and importers of road transport fuel.
Eligible energy efficiency measures include a pre-approved list of measures with deemed energy saving values for residential (including energy poor) sector. Resolution No. 3/2023 on the evolution of the mandatory addition of biodiesel to diesel oil sold to the final consumer
The National Energy Policy Council (CNPE) published in March 2023 new biodiesel blending target, targeting 15% by 2025, and bioethanol blending mandate to 30% by the same date.
