Energy Efficiency 2018
…current technology. This delayed action on energy efficiency ends up locking in inefficiencies that mean much stronger action needs to be taken in the future. 2.2 million barrels of oil per day If all countries had adopted the best passenger fuel economy standards. 16% of industry electricity use If all countries had adopted the strongest electric motor standards. $20 billion If everyone had purchased the top 10% most efficient refrigerators. The Efficient World Scenario So what will the world look like if between now and 2040 countries implemented all the economically viable energy efficiency potential that is available? The…

Clean Energy Transitions Programme 2023
Annual report 2023 The Clean Energy Transitions Programme (CETP) is the IEA’s flagship initiative for accelerating progress toward a global net zero energy system. Launched at the 2017 IEA Ministerial to leverage the Agency’s expertise, insights and influence, the programme has provided world-class analysis, technical assistance and capacity building to support the most ambitious reorientation of the world’s energy systems this century. The CETP’s work is structured across three pillars of activity, with a particular focus on emerging markets and developing economies. The first of these focuses on supporting emerging and developing countries to establish…

Technology Roadmap - China Wind Energy Development Roadmap 2050
Roadmap Technology Roadmap - China Wind Energy Development Roadmap 2050 Developed by the Energy Resource Institute of China’s National Reform and Development Commission (ERI-NDRC), the China Wind Energy Roadmap is the first national roadmap that has been developed by a country with IEA support, drawing from its global roadmap series. The report shows how the People's Republic of China, already the world’s largest wind market, could reach 1 000 gigawatts of wind power by the middle of the century, an achievement that would reduce CO2 emissions by 1.5 gigatonnes per year, or roughly equivalent to the…

…not have been possible, with great benefit to the programme’s focus countries and IEA member countries alike. This CETP Annual Report 2022 provides an overview of the programme’s major achievements in the last year. During this time, the CETP has driven forward an ambitious and impactful agenda, even as the world has contended with multiple overlapping crises. As just some examples, the CETP delivered the Energy Sector Roadmap to Net Zero Emissions in Indonesia, which ministers strongly welcomed at the G20, and has played a key role in shaping Indonesia’s landmark Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP). Similarly…

Clean Energy Transitions Programme 2021
… The report highlights activities and achievements for each priority country and region (Brazil, Mexico, Latin America, the People’s Republic of China, India, Indonesia, Southeast Asia and Africa). It then discusses cross-cutting activities, implemented globally.Recognising the excellent results achieved under the CETP, which are presented in the Annual Report 2021 and previous editions, at the IEA Ministerial Meeting in March 2022 representatives from 15 IEA member countries and the European Commission, on behalf of the European Union, reaffirmed their commitment through the CETP to further strengthen IEA capabilities to accelerate the transformation towards a global net zero energy system…

Implementing Clean Energy Transitions
Focus on road transport in emerging economies This report assesses the impact of the road transport sector on energy demand, CO2 emissions and air pollution in several selected major emerging economies over the coming decades under several IEA modelling scenarios. Most notably the Announced Pledges Scenario (APS) aims to show to what extent announced ambitions and targets, including the most recent ones, are on the path to deliver emissions reductions required to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.Bringing about a road transport decarbonisation pathway in line with the APS in the selected major emerging economies - Brazil, People’s Republic…

…It also summarises IEA activities related to clean energy transitions at a global level, and introduces new and innovative analyses and resources produced throughout the year.
The report initially provides an overview of the CETP’s objectives, then presents highlights of activities and achievements for each priority country (Brazil, the People’s Republic of China. India, Indonesia, Mexico and South Africa), each priority region (Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia), and globally. Foreword With the CETP as a concrete illustration of our collective willingness and capacity to accelerate the pace of change toward the sustainable energy systems of the future…

An energy sector roadmap to carbon neutrality in China
…carbon neutrality in China’s energy sector. It shows that achieving carbon neutrality fits with China’s broader development goals, such as increasing prosperity and shifting towards innovation-driven growth. The first pathway in this Roadmap – the Announced Pledges Scenario – reflects the enhanced targets China announced in 2020. The report also explores the implications of a faster transition – the Accelerated Transition Scenario – and the socio-economic benefits it would bring beyond those associated with reducing the impact of climate change. This Roadmap examines the technology challenges and opportunities that this new phase of the clean energy transition will bring for…

20 Renewable Energy Policy Recommendations
Renewable energy has grown rapidly in recent years, especially in the electricity sector where renewables now account for the largest power capacity additions globally. However, renewables still account for only just above 10% of final energy consumption and the energy sector remains dominated by fossil fuels. Renewables need to increase further and faster to bring about an energy transition that achieves climate targets, ensures energy access for all, reduces air pollution and improves energy security. These 20 recommendations provide guiding principles for policy making, based on best practices observed across IEA member states and partner countries. They can be adapted…
