Implementing Clean Energy Transitions
Focus on road transport in emerging economies This report assesses the impact of the road transport sector on energy demand, CO2 emissions and air pollution in several selected major emerging economies over the coming decades under several IEA modelling scenarios. Most notably the Announced Pledges Scenario (APS) aims to show to what extent announced ambitions and targets, including the most recent ones, are on the path to deliver emissions reductions required to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.Bringing about a road transport decarbonisation pathway in line with the APS in the selected major emerging economies - Brazil, People’s Republic…

Transitioning India’s Road Transport Sector
…emissions by 2070 – a demanding task given the country’s ambitious sustainable development objectives. Road transport currently accounts for a relatively small share in national CO2 emissions, but as India seeks to satisfy the mobility needs of its growing, urbanising and rapidly developing population, energy demand and CO2 emissions from the sector could double by 2050, locking in emissions and putting at risk the achievement of the long-term climate goal. This report, prepared at the request of India’s public think tank NITI Aayog, provides a detailed picture on how CO2 emissions from road transport are likely to grow…

Biofuel Policy in Brazil, India and the United States
…and affordable energy supplies. This report aims to inform and focus the Alliance’s work by sharing biofuel policy insights from Brazil, India and the United States. We find that these countries have expanded biofuel production and use by designing long-term strategies, implementing the right investment signals, supporting innovation, ensuring supplies are secure and affordable, addressing sustainability concerns early and collaborating with the international community. Further, there are three priority areas that would facilitate sustainable biofuel deployment in support of the global energy transition: Identifying and helping develop markets with high potential for sustainable biofuels production, accelerating technology deployment…

A Vision for Clean Cooking Access for All
…cooking technologies. Yet in sub-Saharan Africa, there are a rising number of people without access to cleaner stoves and fuels, largely because population growth is outpacing gains. This could hinder broader development efforts, making it imperative to elevate clean cooking as a policy priority. The report presents country-by-country assessments and an outlook for clean cooking under existing policies, offering a roadmap towards universal access. By identifying the required policies, technologies, investments and implementation efforts, the report seeks to galvanise international support for clean cooking initiatives, informing conversations ahead of the UN Sustainable Development Goal Summit, the African…
