Source: International Energy Agency
Last updated: 24 June 2025

This directive discusses the principles and practice of gas well testing to analyze the performance and forecast the productivity of gas wells and to understand the behaviour of gas reservoirs. Aspects of gas well testing discussed in this directive include theoretical principles; gas properties; design and interpretation of deliverability, drawdown, and build-up tests; estimation of reserve parameters and flow behaviour; field testing and reporting; and calculation of bottom-hole pressures from wellhead measures.
