Last updated: 31 May 2024

Mexico's Energy Transition and Sustainable Energy Utilization Fund (FOTEASE) was created in 2008, within the framework of the Energy Transition Law. The fund is ruled by a technical committee, led by the Secretariat of Energy and composed by the Secretariat of Agriculture, Environment, Federal Electricity Commission, amongst other national institutions. The committee will issue rules for the administration, allocation, and distribution of resources in the Fund, in order to establish mechanisms to promote clean energy and reduce carbon emissions in the country. Amongst the objectives of the fund are the following:

  • Promote sustainable energy use in final consumption to accelerate energy transformation processes.
  • Promote renewables and sustainable waste practices in the country.
  • Contribute to the accomplishment of Mexico's targets in terms of clean energy generation and emission reduction.
  • Facilitate the deployment of energy efficiency goals.

Every year, the committee's fund launches a report summarizing the main achievements and projects the fund is supporting, The latest version of the report is version number six, which covers the projects the fund is financing as of December 31, 2022.
