In an attempt to improve motor testing standards, efficiency classes, and motor labelling requirements, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) published the new improved testing standard 60034-2-1 in 2007. Under which, motors are required to meet minimum efficiency standards of IEC IE3 equivalent. These new standards came into force in 2011.
