Promoting the development of energy from biogas among selected small and medium-sized agribusinesses
The Ministry of Energy implements a four-year programme, "Promoting the development of energy from biogas among selected small and medium-sized agribusinesses". The programme was operational until November 2018. It is financed by a USD 1.7 million grant from the Global Environment Facility. Its goal is to promote a local market for anaerobic digestion technology for bovine slurries in medium-sized dairy farms in the regions of Los Rios and Los Lagos to mitigate methane emissions and provide a local energy source.
The programme has three major components:
developing policy and raising awareness
improving technical capabilities and skills
investment and project portfolio to develop approximately 20 operating biogas projects in both regions, with a demonstration effect.
