National Energy Policy Green Paper (2006-2020)

The main objectives of the National Energy Policy Green Paper (2006-2020) of Jamaica are:

• to ensure stable and adequate energy supplies at the least economic cost;


• to provide an appropriate environment conducive to private sector participation inelectricity generation;


• rural electrification at affordable rates;


• to diversify the energy base, encourage the development of indigenous energy resources and to ensure the security of energy supplies;


• to protect the economy from the volatility in energy prices;


• to reduce the energy intensity of the economy;


• to minimize the adverse environmental effects and pollution caused by the production, storage, transport and use of energy;


• to establish an appropriate regulatory framework to protect consumers, investors and the environment.
