Biofuel Production and Use in Latvia programme (2003-2010)

The programme's main objectives are:  

1. 1) Provision of raw material using Latvian agricultural land for biofuel production;


2. 2) Facilitation of biofuel production in Latvia; 


3. 3) Promotion of use of biofuels in Latvia.

This programme was a response to the EU Directive 2003/30/EC which required shares of biofuel in road transport of 2% by 2005 and 5.75% by 2010.

The programme envisioned that Latvia can produce the required amount of biofuel in Latvian territory, as well as export surplus to other countries.
