Geologic Sequestration Training and Research
The Geologic Sequestration Training and Research is a grant program that funds projects offering training opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students that will provide the human capital and skills required for implementing and deploying carbon capture and storage technologies. The projects contribute to the scientific, technical, and institutional knowledge necessary to establish frameworks for the development of commercial CCS projects, and will produce a trained workforce necessary for the CCS industry with skills and competencies in geology, geophysics, geomechanics, geochemistry and reservoir engineering disciplines. The program establishes a competitive grant initiative that allows colleges and universities to apply for and receive 4-year grants. These grants cover salary and startup costs for newly designated faculty positions within an integrated geologic carbon sequestration science program, as well as internships for graduate students in this field.
