Customs duty exemptions on import of goods for processing critical minerals

In its national budget for financial year (FY) 2026-2027, India announced an exemption from the basic customs duty levied on import of:

• capital goods required for processing of critical minerals in India
• capital goods used for manufacturing lithium-ion cells for battery energy storage systems.

These exemptions have been made with a view to support domestic processing of critical minerals and strengthen infrastructure required for India's energy transition.
