The Natural Gas Order 2026 was issued to address LNG supply disruptions caused by geopolitical conflict in the Middle East.
It establishes a hierarchy where

  • Priority Sector I receives 100% of consumption for domestic PNG, transport CNG, and LPG
  • Priority Sector II allocates 70% for fertiliser plants to ensure continued agricultural production
  • Priority Sector III maintains supplies at 80% for tea industries and industrial consumers on the national grid
  • Priority Sector IV ensures industrial and commercial consumers via CGD networks also receive 80%

GAIL and PPAC manage these diversions using a pooled pricing mechanism that overrides all existing commercial contracts
