Government Electricity Price Stabilisation Subsidy

Last updated: 28 April 2026

The government provides budgetary subsidies to the state-owned utility Taipower to stabilise electricity tariffs and limit price increases for households and businesses.

In recent years, subsidy levels have been growing:

  • NT$50 billion in 2023
  • ~NT$250 billion across 2023-2024
  • NT$100 billion approved for 2024 budget support

These subsidies are used to offset the gap between electricity generation costs and regulated tariffs, which remain below cost-recovery levels. The policy aims to mitigate the impact of global fuel price volatility and inflation on consumers.  Additional government support was provided in 2025, including a NT$100 billion allocation to Taipower, and electricity price stabilisation measures remained in place in 2026.
