Concept of Development of the Electric Power Industry of Turkmenistan for 2013-2020

The Concept guided major state investment in electricity generation and transmission infrastructure. It planned construction of 14 new gas-turbine power plants, reconstruction of several existing stations, and expansion of high-voltage transmission networks. The programme aimed to increase electricity production to 26.38 billion kWh by 2020 and develop new capacity totalling 3,854 MW. The strategy also targeted significant growth in electricity exports to neighbouring countries. Total investment in the sector was projected to exceed USD 5 billion.
