Planned Introduction of Ethanol-Gasoline Blending (E10)

The Government of Costa Rica announced plans to introduce gasoline blended with ethanol as part of the country’s decarbonisation and energy diversification strategy. The initiative, included in the National Development Plan 2023-2026, aims to introduce ethanol blending initially in premium gasoline and later expand to other gasoline grades. Implementation requires an executive decree establishing the blending percentage and a technical regulation defining ethanol fuel specifications.
