National 3 Million Tonnes Copper Production Strategy by 2031

The Zambian Government, through the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, launched the National 3 Million Metric Tonnes Copper Production Strategy by 2031 to stimulate investment in mining exploration, minerals processing, and the supply of goods and services. The Strategy seeks to contribute significantly towards boosting the country’s copper production of approximately 800,000 metric tonnes of copper annually to 3 million metric tonnes annually by 2031. 
The strategic objectives focus on (i) providing an enabling environment for copper production expansion in brownfield mining companies, (ii) monitoring greenfield projects, (iii) exploiting mineralized tailings, slug dumps, (iv) supporting artisanal and small-scale mining, (v) improving regulation, efficiency and transparency in the mineral value chain, (vi) conducting high resolution aerial geophysical surveys, (vii) promoting investment in exploration, mining, processing and value addition, and (viii) building capacity for research and development.
