Fuel Economy Standards on Heavy Duty Vehicles phase 1

The regulation sets fuel economy standards for freight vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) >= 3.5 t, and Passenger Vehicle with a riding capacity of 11 persons or more and a GVW >= 3.5t.

When the Phase 1 targets are fully met, the fleet average fuel economy is estimated to be:

  • For trucks, 7.09 km/L, a 12.2% improvement over the 2002 baseline at  6.32 km/L
  • For buses, 6.30 km/L, a 12.1% improvement over the 2002 baseline at 5.62 km/L
