Energy Policy and Conservation Act - fuel efficiency standards

The Act sets for the first time average fuel economy for passenger automobiles and light trucks. Model year after 1977 shall not be less than 18.0 miles per gallon in 1978, increasing to 27.5 miles per gallon in 1985 and thereafter.
