EPA and NHTSA established two sets of standards

These standards set a target for light-duty vehicles to achieve an average level of CO2 emission of 250g/mile in model year (MY) 2016 compared to 295g/miles of CO2 for the 2012 model year 2012.
They also require manufacturers to meet an estimated combined average fuel economy level of 34.1 mpg in model year 2016.
