Green hydrogen roadmap

Source: International Energy Agency
Last updated: 05 September 2025
The roadmap outlines a vision for integrating renewable hydrogen in the national energy mix. The roadmap identifies 16 milestones across three phases (feasibility and demonstration in 2024-2027, deployment in 2028-2035, and expansion and integration in 2036-2050). Targets include 0.5-1 GW of electrolysis by 2027, 1.2-3 GW by 2028 and 3-6 GW by 2036. Investment needs for the across the three phases are USD 6.2-13.5 billion. Expected outcomes by 2050 include fossil fuel displacement in electricity production, 60% reduction in fertilizer imports and the creation of 27000-54000 jobs. The main electricity source is envisioned to be hydropower and the main use for domestic fertilizer production due to ongoing scarcity and growing domestic concerns about food security.
